How to instal the solar panels on a sailing boat

 29/07/2014  Know How, Quick Tips

More and more boat lovers decide to install the solar panels on their sailing boat. The choice of the ideal way of installation depends on various factors.

For instance, it is necessary to take into consideration the kind of surface on which solar panels are intended to be installed as well as the boat usage being sought. Depending on the case, this is due to different stresses the panels may be exposed to.

Generally, yachtsmen and boat lovers prefer not to adopt irreversible solutions (similarly to those who travel by campervan), hence reaching a good compromise between steadiness of the installation and ease of its removal.

Once the surface has been chosen, the solar panel can be installed on a sailing boat by following three different options:

•Attach the panel by using bi-adhesive

•Install the solar panel through eyelets (panel version available on request)

•Make use of “dual lock” Velcro

In order to get an aesthetically "clean" result, we suggest using mini fairleads, plastic bands and adhesive supports, so that the cables can adhere to the surface too.

Whatever is the chosen option, it will be anyway necessary to exert a sufficient pressure while the panel is laid, in order to ensure a uniform adhesion on the surface.

Should the installation need longer cables, Tregoo provides 6m of cables extension available on our e-shop.
